Happy 95th Birthday Mickey and Minnie
We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Walt said, “It all started with a mouse.” Here we are nearly a century later and over 130 films and Mickey is popular as ever. Mickey debuted November 18th, 1928 in Steamboat Willie. Rather than rambling on and on about the birthday celebration, today, we are going to share trivia about our favorite anthropomorphic mice.
Mickey Trivia
- Mickey was created by Ub Iwerks and replaced Steamboat Willie.
- He has been in over 130 films in his 95 years.
- Mickey was the first cartoon character to have their own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame getting his star in 1978.
- Fantasia was Mickey’s feature length film debut in 1940.
- Did you know Mickey was in prison?!?! Yep, our favorite pal was in prison in 1930’s The Chain Gang.
- Mickey was in every episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on television.
- His catchphrase “Hot Dog!” was also his first spoken words in film.
- Walt Disney himself was the first voice for Mickey
- His original planned name was…. Mortimer Mouse
Minnie Trivia
- Minnie’s real name is Minerva.
- Minnie was also in every episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
- She has 2 pets: Figaro the cat and Fifi the dog.
- Talking about Minnie’s pets. She was the owner of Pluto in 1930’s The Chain Gang. Pluto’s task was tracking Mickey Mouse when he was in prison.
- According to Walt Disney in 1933 Film Pictorial, “Mickey and Minnie were married privately.”
- Minnie was silent on screen from 1974 to 1986 despite multiple appearances in film.
- Minnie’s bows were not always her headpiece of choice. Her original headwear was a hat with a white and yellow flower.
- She was also voiced by Walt Disney originally.
